This month the ABE Program Office would like to take a few moments to appreciate one of our newest community members, Dr. Yasuyuki Goto, site liaison for ABE Japan. Yasu joined ABE at one of the most difficult times in our program’s history. His team was tasked with recruiting and training teachers at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when it was all but impossible to think about anything except trying to get back to normal. In the face of all obstacles, Yasu’s positivity and proactive efforts resulted in ABE Japan’s first successful PDI in March and April of 2021. He has brought a smile and a spirit of teamwork to every meeting he attends, collaborating with our MLTs and with other sites in the Asia Pacific region to troubleshoot, plan, and continue to build their programs. When he’s not working, he can be found playing badminton or indulging in some Pokemon Go; it’s important to be well-rounded! We are deeply grateful for all Yasu and his teammates have done to launch and sustain ABE in the most challenging circumstances. Thank you for your positive spirit and hard work, Yasu!
